A city with 24 churches and 6 monasteries is also one of the oldest Croatian cities, encircled by awe-inspiring fortified walls and fortresses. The most beautiful and the most famous building in Šibenik is undoubtedly the impressive Cathedral of St. James. Its construction took approximately one hundred years.
One of its main characteristics is the structure built entirely from stone, without any binding material, which only adds to its fascinating appearance. The historic urban nucleus of Šibenik is packed with beautiful medieval houses, palaces and monuments speaking of the long history of the city. The amazing main square also serves as venue for numerous events, surrounded by remarkable buildings telling us many significant stories from the past.
